Star Struck

Star Struck.

Admit it.

We all are.  Some form or fashion, we are all star struck.  Don’t try to be some non-conformist and say you aren’t, when you are.

I write this because my daughter has become star struck, but I suppose every teen is at some point and now is her time.

I am. I will fully admit it.  See the guy above, William Shatner, saw him in Nashville back in 2000 something and I couldn’t stop staring at him.  And everyone around was staring too.  Its damn WILLIAM SHATNER.

How bad am I?  I was even star struck by this yahoo below.

Stephen Baldwin.  Pathetic? Oh Absolutely.  Regretful?  Absolutely not.

Athletes, not so much.  Working in the sports world for so many years, it doesn’t faze me.

Except one time.  The most star struck I have ever been in my life.  Although I met him years after his days of playing were over.

This dude…..

The Snake. Ken Stabler.

Met him a bar years ago, surprise, and he was the most stand up celebrity I have ever met.  Signed autographs for hours, shook hands, posed for countless pictures and was the life of the party.  I was working as a bouncer and the bar was packed and a huge line out the door.  This guy walks up, in a suit, pulls me aside and asks, ‘Hey, I have Ken Stabler in the car.  Any chance we can skip the line and come in?’  I replied, ‘if you have Ken Stabler, I will kiss your butt in front of everyone.’  He didn’t laugh and walked out.  2 minutes later, who walks in, but Ken Stabler.   My jaw hit the floor.  And so did everyone else’s.  He was instantly recognizable.  We got him a seat at the bar.  3 hours later, Stabler’s driver walks up and says, ‘I will take a rain check on the ass kissing.’

I was with you, the time you invited me down to the old Planet Hollywood to meet Huey Long. We had our picture taken with him but the guy never sent it to me like he said he would. I would still like to have that picture.

Clint Eastwood and Sting. Clint is a life long fave. Met him in CA. Kind of left me speechless. With Sting…I couldn’t shut up. Fellow singer ya know. Said he liked Nashville a lot. Not really star struck because I’ve met lots of celebs…or so called celebs. 🙂 They should’ve been star struck by me. hahahhaha joking 🙂

There’s a big-time Nashville celebrity who I’m star struck by but he keeps putting the divider down every time I stalk, er, visit him at home. Or work. Or the Y.

      Hahaha….50 feet you stalker!!

      • Jenny July 11, 2013 11:18 pm  Reply

I don’t care that the paper with all the big words on it says 50 feet. It’s that damn divider you walk around with. I must find a way around this.

Magic Johnson getting out of his limo at the Luxor in Vegas in 1998. He got out of the car right in front of us as we were standing curbside, looked directly at us like “you know who I am”…and after no response from the hubby or I, spoke to our 2 year-old…who had to common sense to speak back.

Jeff Fisher was at lunch at Bread & Company one Valentine’s Day. I was right beside him in line for soup. He said hello. I honestly shyly said hi quietly, looked away and smiled. Am i enamored with him? NO…why did i do that? No idea….but I did. I even did the old phone call trying not to say it too loudly that I was having lunch with Jeff Fisher (yes, it still counts if we exchange glances from two tables over).

I saw Michael Jordan at a club in Raleigh, NC. I guess about 20 years ago now. EVERYONE was star struck. He was surrounded by bodyguards so no one could get close, but he did smile and nod to people who called his name. He was larger than life.

I couldn’t form words at all when I rounded a corner (I walk fast) and nearly plowed over Merle Haggard at Northstar. I’ve worked with folks like Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu, and I’ve bowled with Peter Frampton, so being around a star doesn’t normally phase me, but on this particular day, I stammered. I’m pretty sure it was because I wasn’t mentally prepared to meet him (not to mention nearly walk right into him) and when I did see him, his face was mere inches from mine. I’m still embarassed.

After you, Big Joe it’s hard to compare anyone but I will say one person who blew me away with how down to earth, kind and all around great he was, Robin Williams. Loved that man!
Now, I would be star struck if I met ANYONE from Breaking Bad!!
P.S. Bucket list item of mine was checked off (3 times) last year after I turned ____ (that # is a secret, let’s just say over 50, Ha-Ha-Ha). Three tattoos from Breaking Bad!! I know it’s crazy but I loved that show & now I love my tattoos! They were my first, second & third ever!!!

I was working a golf tournament & Suzanne Wyatt, Shauna Collins & I were in a cart. We drove up to Garth Brooks. He was so nice, so we asked him to take our photo. He did. We never took his photo. I hope he is still talking about us…
