Network TV is Bad, And Why We Don’t Care

Tell me a show on the big 4, NON-reality, that you watch all the time.

I mean, all the time.

If social media is any barometer, it is about nil.

I see tweets about the show Scandal. But that’s about it.

is it bad and we don’t care? Here are a few reasons why.

That’s why.

We all know someone who watches at least one of these shows.

Heck I watch 3 of them. Most watch all of them.

And there are others, like the Newsroom, or Boardwalk Empire, that people are obsessed with.

So why aren’t these shows on network tv, the big 4? Great question. I have read from production costs being too high, to these shows being

passed up by executives and on and on.

Thing is, we don’t care anymore.

HBO, Showtime, AMC, and others are picking up the slack where networks won’t.

Long gone are the days of Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing,Hill Street Blues, etc.

Network TV built their brand on comedy and the characters.

They need to get back to that soon, or those might be gone too.

The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Parks & Recreation are pretty much it for me, I think.

I also watch Grey’s Anatomy every now and then, but that’s only because of Sarah Drew and Camilla Luddington (Google her; you will not be sorry). I don’t really know if they count, since they’re both late night shows, but I watch Letterman and Ferguson, too, although I’m getting tired of Letterman bashing Edward Snowden every chance he gets. I get it, Dave; you’re pro-big government. He could learn a thing or two from Ferguson, who keeps politics out of his show 99.9% of the time.

The problem is there’s too many reality shows on network TV. We’re all tired of watching the whining. The “staged reality” is just unbearable. Big Brother? Please! Amazing Race? Snooze fest!!! Survivor? Don’t get me started! We want drama and network TV just doesn’t get that. Scandal comes close because it’s edgy (is that a word?) and people follow the CHARACTERS.

DOes this mean you think that Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing were good shows? NOOOOOOO they were not. Just no other choices at the time. So we watched them. I do enjoy Good Wife and Parenthood are it for dramas. Modern Family, Big Bang and Molly & Me are good comedies. But i don’t watch the reruns…..I find new non-network shows to catch up on…

Gave up TV years ago, don’t miss it at all–pure trash. Do watch Netflix some with the kids.
