“We’re All Doing Okay”

It is May and that means graduation season is upon us once again.  Time certainly does fly when we think about our own graduation and experiences.  At church, they are doing a thing where members can pick up a landline and leave a message for upcoming graduates.  It is a great idea and you just leave words of affirmation and advice.  They send these to all the graduates to have.

I took this a step further on my daily radio show.  I asked listeners that if you could call heaven and leave a message, who would you call and what would you say.  My goodness, this just absolutely took off and for great reasons as you can imagine.

The phone lines just lit up and hearing so many people react to a really simple and powerful question was something else.  I had said I would call my mom and leave this message–“We’re All Doing Okay.”  She always worried about my brother and sister and me and to let her know we are all doing okay really made me happy.  The thought that she did receive that gave me a feeling of pure warmth.

To hear so many grown men call in with dedications to parents, friends, family and on was a day I will never forget.  One man called in about his brother he had recently lost.  He wanted to let him know that he will continue to honor his memory forever and that he missed him tremendously.  One call after another kept rolling in and it was so therapeutic to hear these wonderful messages.

In our chaotic world and on a sports talk radio show at Noon, to step away from that craziness and hear people just open up on their feelings was a moment and show I will never forget.  So I ask, who are you calling in heaven and what message are you leaving?
