Now

I have written many a article on these pages about my affinity for Jimmy Buffett.  Sure, the big songs such as “Margaritaville,” & “Volcano,” & many more amplify that gulf & western good time vibe but he wrote so many songs that are just powerful with sometimes just one line.

I thought I had heard about every song he sang but alas, never say never.  This all ties in with a God wink and some personal things.  As of this writing, I will have been to seven funerals already in 2026.  My heart breaks for the families.  As I have said, the names are different but the pain is the same.  Grief has many different faces and they are all terrible and ugly.

I have been saying for a while now that all we have is Now in our life.  Not tomorrow.  Not the day after.  Now, that is all we have.  Really, that is all we need.  Sure, make plans for vacations and concerts and things you want to do down the road and that is all great, but never forget about now.  Why?  Because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

I was scrolling through my music catalog and I came across a song called “Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On.”  I had never seen this nor heard of it.  Nothing.  Well, I decided to click on it to hear it and another moment of stopping me in my tracks, which happens a lot and I love it.  The opening part just floored me.

“I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man floating down canal; it doesn’t use numbers or a moving hand, it always just says ‘Now.'”

God wink.  That is how I am looking at this.  Perhaps, the only way you can.  I have been saying all we have is Now for a while, because that really is all we have.  I want a watch that says that because my goodness, what a great way to look at the moments we have.  By the way, the song was an ode to the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina leveled the city.  Cannot worry about tomorrow; cannot look back on yesterday; all we have is now.

I have learned, as I hope you have, to be amazingly grateful for every single second of this day.  God winks are all around and that is beautiful thing.  We will say goodbye to those who have left a heart on our heart.  We will cherish the time with them.  We will continue to thank God for every day.

And, we will cherish the Now.
