Nearly four years ago, I went through some dark times in my life. Yes, all my fault but I had hit a breaking point. It continued on for several months until I got into therapy and started going step by step and day by day. I had long talks with God and some called me crazy for being so transparent with my anxiety and depression. Not only here in these articles but on my radio show and other places.
In those talks with God, I said if I get out of this, I will spend my breath and energy trying to get men into therapy. He replied, “No if, but when.” I was not about to argue. Through His grace and love and mercy, I got out and have never been happier in my entire life. Now that I am well because I opened up, the message of going to therapy is resonating.
Therapy made me open up about things that had been shoved down in my soul for decades. They all came out and I was forever changed. There are lot of men who are struggling and suicide has become quite common in our world and it shouldn’t be. I know some days it feels as if that dark cloud won’t go away, but it does, I can attest to that.
Here is the positive-Every man that has gone to therapy that I know, or told me, is doing remarkably well. Now, there are still bad days and dark days but the fact they are still going to therapy and here, gives me some amazing hope. Big bad and tough men are now going to therapy and the old adage of “I am never going to therapy,” as been replaced by “I am going to therapy.”
When I first wrote the article, “Go Talk To Someone,” in March of ’23, I added my email address. Again, I was called crazy to put that out there but I heard from so many men, it was equal parts wonderful and concerning. Concerning because those men were doing a 360 in their lives, just spinning around. They all got into therapy and it was a beautiful thing.
Here is my email address again–BigJoeOnTheGo@gmail.com. All emails are private and confidential and I will get you into therapy. I am not a therapist or a preacher, in case you were wondering.
I need you here; your family needs you here; your friends need you here. Email and let’s go. I will walk with you as long as you need me.
Also, another reason to say here–You have not met everyone who is going to love you. Let’s go!!
