“It Doesn’t Get Easier; You Get Stronger”

I have written in these pages before that one sure way to change the world is to keep showing up in whatever you are doing.  Going to the gym, going walking, a new project at work that no one wanted to do, an impossible task that one says you can’t finish, you name it, it does not matter as long as you keep showing up.

It is beyond simple in the approach but sometimes the message has to hit us differently before we get it.  Perhaps a note that says the same thing but with different words.  Maybe it is a meme or part of a video, it doesn’t matter as long as it resonates.

Back in January, I joined HotWorx in Hermitage, (which I wrote about recently), and I joined the hot yoga and hot Pilates world.  It has been a great journey and when I started, I couldn’t touch my toes or do about 90% of what was required in the class.  I had two choices–Stop going or keep showing up.  Guess which one I chose?  Exactly because when I tell you to never quit and keep showing up, what would that mean for me if I didn’t take my own advice?

Three months later and I can do about 95% of what they ask in the class.  Had I quit that figure would have been 0%.  Zero.  It was as simple as just keep showing up.  As I told someone about this they said, ‘That is great.  You know it doesn’t get easier; you get stronger.”  Whoa!  Let me read that again.  It doesn’t get easier; you get stronger.  Those exercises are still there and it requires greater effort that ends up making you stronger.

Talk about a confidence boost in every way possible. They could have said “You would have figured it out and it gets easier” but you get stronger, it doesn’t get easier, which hits you completely different in an amazing way.

Apply this to things that people, or maybe you, think are unattainable, impossible or will never get accomplished.  Keep showing up because they are correct, it does not get easier, you get better and stronger.  Be proud of yourself.
