We all at some point start a personal journey to better our lives in many ways. We start going back to church; we go to the gym; we start that project we have been working on and putting off for years. Some complete that journey while others stop and start and stop and start. I often use this line when talking to friends-Confirm arrivals, not moves.
The meaning is not everyone will be with you on this journey and unfortunately, many have this innate ability to just criticize or ask why are you wasting your time with whatever you are doing. It is more a reflection on them than on you so I just say keep the journey to yourself until you make that destination point.
I have been advocate that just 45 minutes a day, away from your phone, and maybe people, and going to the gym is a life saver. Whether it be walking or trying to lift as much as weight as you can, it is just as good mentally as it is physically. The number one push back I get is not, “I don’t have the time,” but instead, “People will be looking at me and I don’t like that.” I say that most of us are wrapped up in our insecurities to even notice someone next to us but some of the most caring and genuine people you will ever come across will be inside a gym because they know why you are there.
A friend said that when people say something to you or attempt to stop your positive flow and journey that to tell them to mind their own business. I said that is a complete waste of time. As we know, you can only control so much in your life and one is how you react to situations. We have that power not to react at all. We agreed to disagree. Then I told him this-If you stop to throw stones at every dog that barks at you, you will never make your destination. So let them bark.
Let them bark. Let them talk. Let them gossip. Let them do whatever they do. Once you get to the point where you see yourself changing, along with your mind and body, you will realize even more that it is just a waste of time to engage. You have a destination that is attainable focusing on that will help you get their faster and in a better state of mind.
Let them bark. You go celebrate. One foot in front of the other.
