Coming off the Academy Awards, I thought we should look at movies that were filmed in Nashville over the years.
Some are good.
Some are bad.
Some are well, just plain odd.
Most of them are a combination of all 3 and will leave you saying, WTF!?
So here are the top 6 movies that were filmed in Music City.
Enjoy.
6) STARMAN
YES, FILMED PARTLY IN NASHVILLE. THE SCENE WHERE HE CRASHES THE CAR INTO THE TANKER WAS SHOT NEAR TRI-STAR HOSPITAL OFF OF BRILEY PARKWAY, WAY BACK IN 1983. THE SCENE BEFORE THAT WAS SHOT ON DICKERSON PK. BUT NOT THAT PART OF DICKERSON PK. (OH JOE.) WATCH IT AGAIN AND YOU WILL SEE ANOTHER NASHVILLE LANDMARKS.

5) THE THING CALLED LOVE
[A group of newcomers to the country music business seek love and stardom.]
Here is the trailer for this God Awful mess….
Young girl comes to Nashville and blah blah blah…..The only redeeming thing about this movie is that one night, while working at the world famous Wrangler, Sandra Bullock and the cast came into the bar I was working. River Phoenix was the big name in the movie and gotta say, he was pretty damn cool. Bullock was very distant that night but she was just starting out and more shy than anything else. I had a pic that they all took that night while in the bar with us and I have to find it because that may be worth something. Yes, it is always about me.

4) CONCRETE COWBOYS
[Two Montana saddletramps head to Nashville to open up a detective agency. At first, the agencybegins on a lark, but soon they get involved in a case involving a kidnapped singer.]
Ironically, a clip from the movie does not exist because it so bad, pretty sure every copy of this movie was burned.
This was also filmed before Tom Selleck hit it big on Magnum P.I. but re-released after he became a “Star” and they tried to make it something. Nashville has never looked so bad, well until that Private Lives of Nashville Wives show on TNT.
Native Nashvillians (or is it Nashvillans?) will laugh at some of the scenes in the movie involving landmarks. One scene, Jerry Reed and Tom Selleck get chased out of the Opryland Hotel, hop on a dump truck and the next scene, they are hopping off at the Parthenon, like it is a 15 second ride. Oh damn, good times.

3) NASHVILLE
[Over the course of a few hectic days, numerous interrelated people prepare for a political convention as secrets and lies are surfaced and revealed.]
This is a must watch for anyone who has lived or is living in Nashville today. For one reason only and that would be the scenery of Nashville as it was in 1975. The airport, the interstates, etc, all much different but you can still see a lot of familiar things. Such a bad movie, you have to watch it because of that.

2) DILL SCALLION
[The rise and fall of a school bus driver turned country music singer. Roger Ebert calls this film festival favorite “A country music Spinal Tap.]
Literally, no one saw this movie and I had no idea it existed until I did an interview with David Koechner and he told me he was in it. Nashville isn’t it a lot but it is a oddly good movie. Henry Winkler, Jason Priestly, Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) is in it and the lead is played by Billy Burke, the dad from The Twilight series.

And the number one movie, one that a lot of people have forgotten about is…
1) W.W. AND THE DIXIE DANCEKINGS
[W.W. is a happy-go-lucky crook who makes his living robbing gas stations through the drive-up windows. The Dixie Dancekings are a country music band trying to get their first big break. W.W. crosses paths with the Dixie Dancekings when he hijacks their car (and them) to help him rob a bank. At first, the band resists. However, when they discover how much money they make, they begin helping out voluntarily in order to finance their big break. At the same time, W.W. takes a liking to them and uses his natural charm and smooth-talking ways to help them start down the road to stardom.]
Another bad and awesome movie involving Nashville. Burt Reynolds is in it and if you happen to catch it on TV one day, check it out. You will see a lot of familiar landmarks and your life will be enriched beyond measure. Actually, that is a giant lie but here is a clip for you.
I truly hope this was a waste of time for you as it was for me, putting it all together.
