Usually, when a celebrity dies, it doesn’t bother me.
But not this time.
I never met Harold Ramis, but I felt like I knew him.
Heck, we all felt like we knew him.
That is because he wrote some of best movies of all time.
Movies that as a 45 year old man, I still quote today.
Here is a list of movies he wrote, that indirectly shaped me as a teenager.
- ANIMAL HOUSE
- BACK TO SCHOOL
- GROUNDHOG DAY
To me, this is one of the greatest scenes in cinema history.
“WILL THEY SEND US SOMEPLACE SPECIAL”
“NOT PARKING…WE ARE ABANDONING IT.”
“CONVICTED? NEVER CONVICTED.”
From that one scene, staples in my vocabulary that I have used for 30 plus years.
And do not get me started on Caddyshack.
But this might be the greatest thing Harold Ramis ever wrote, in a career of some absolutely wonderful things that he created.
You can read your Shakespeare. And that is fine.
I will watch Harold Ramis films.
He is my Shakespeare.
He is our Shakespeare.
And his words will live forever.
Yep, this one hurts.
